At Exboys UK, we understand the unique challenges faced by men who grew up in the Nigerian Military School from the age of 11, shaped by discipline, resilience, and brotherhood. These experiences have forged us, but they have also left many carrying unseen mental health burdens. It’s time to break the stigma, open honest conversations, and support each other.
Over the past two seminars, we gathered as a community to discuss mental health among men, especially black men, and the impact of our shared military school background. We’ve heard stories of struggle, strength, and hope. These conversations revealed how mental health challenges affect not just our minds but our daily lives, work performance, relationships, marriages, and even how we raise our children.
What We’ve Learned So Far
- Volume 1 tackled the stigma around mental health in black communities, exploring how cultural expectations and ideas of masculinity often prevent men from seeking help or sharing their feelings.
- Volume 2 took a deeper dive into practical strategies for mental wellbeing, emphasising the importance of building support networks and breaking down barriers to professional help.
These seminars have created a safe space for healing and awareness, but our journey is far from over.
Volume 3: You’re Invited
We warmly invite all Exboys, black men, and the wider public to join us for our next free online seminar:
Saturday, 21 June 2025 at 4 PM (BST) on Zoom
This open seminar welcomes anyone interested in understanding and supporting mental health in black men and beyond. We will continue to explore how mental health affects our daily functioning, how it can impact concentration at work, emotional connection with partners, parenting, and overall quality of life.
Why Attend?
- To help dismantle the stigma around mental health in our communities.
- To learn practical tools for managing mental wellbeing.
- To understand how mental health influences relationships, marriage, and parenting.
- To connect with fellow Exboys and others who share similar challenges.
- To participate in an open, safe dialogue where vulnerability is a source of strength.
Mental health is a crucial part of our strength and resilience and not a sign of weakness. Together, we can create change, build understanding, and support each other to live fuller, healthier lives.
How to Join
No registration is needed. Simply join us on Zoom at the time of the seminar. The Zoom link will be available on our website and social media channels closer to the date. Please share this invitation widely—mental health affects us all, and together we can break the silence.
